History in Bloom: The Storytelling Experience
History in Bloom is an exhibition designed to bring TreePeople’s 53-year journey to life and carry its story forward with archival materials on display for the first time.
Through installations and archival storytelling, the exhibit explores:
- The organization’s 1973 founding and grassroots origins
- How TreePeople grew to lead hundreds of community-driven urban and mountain forestry initiatives throughout Southern California
- The people and partnerships that shaped Los Angeles’ urban forest through TreePeople planting events over the decades
- Our forward-looking vision for environmental and community resilience
Following the March 20th unveiling, the exhibit will remain open to the public on March 23, 2026 - April 8, 2026, offering the broader community an opportunity to engage with TreePeople’s history and ongoing work. The event promises compelling visuals and meaningful dialogue at a time when community resilience is top of mind across the region.
A Landmark Naming Ceremony
A highlight of the day will be the naming of the Schuman Family Foundation Conference Center, a tribute to the foundation’s extraordinary investment in TreePeople’s mission. The Schuman Family Foundation has taken a leading role in advancing TreePeople’s Wildfire Resilience Fund, established in response to the devastating January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires.
“For more than five decades, TreePeople has inspired and supported communities to plant and care for trees, strengthening both our neighborhoods and our environment,” says Dr. Cassie Rauser, CEO of TreePeople. “On March 20, 2026, we celebrate that enduring legacy and recognize the extraordinary support of the Schuman Family Foundation, whose passion and generosity help our organization make an even greater impact throughout Southern California.”
Through a bold matching initiative, the foundation is doubling community donations, which helps to accelerate wildfire preparedness, restoration, and long-term resilience efforts. By honoring the Schuman Family Foundation’s transformational support, TreePeople aims to spark a ripple effect, inspiring individuals, foundations, and corporate leaders to join in advancing wildfire resilience and to invest in safeguarding Southern California’s future.
This milestone represents a shared belief in long-term environmental stewardship, community leadership, and a future shaped by green solutions and restoration.
“Trees give us so much, and in return, we are meant to care for them with the same generosity. It was essential for our family to stand with TreePeople in a moment when our close partnership could strengthen their vital work,” says Laura Schuman, President of the Schuman Family Foundation.
Designed as both a tribute and a call to action, History in Bloom invites guests to experience TreePeople’s story at the Schuman Family Foundation Conference Center as a living campus–one sustained by collective commitment to a greener future.
