Los Angeles, CA – TreePeople announces strong support today for a $9 billion local school bond measure that will go before voters on the upcoming November ballot. Dan Berger, TreePeople’s Executive Director of Operations, released the following statement:
"No child dreams of playing on asphalt, and yet the vast majority of preschool-12 students in Los Angeles attend schools blanketed in blacktop with far too little tree canopy and shade. All students deserve shade trees and play fields that enrich learning, reduce extreme heat, and improve mental health and well-being.
The LAUSD Board of Education has taken bold action to meet the moment by sending an unprecedented $9 billion school construction bond to the November ballot — the largest school bond in LAUSD history. And, for the first time ever, an LAUSD bond measure includes a major investment in green schoolyards, with $1.25 billion set aside to transform schoolyards and change lives across the district.
We commend the LAUSD Board for their leadership and for providing the opportunity to vote for a greener future for all students this November."
