Southern California-based environmental non-profit TreePeople rang in its golden anniversary on May 21st at their newly reopened S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre with performances from Beck, Van Dyke Parks, Courtney Barnett, Devendra Banhart, Blake Mills, Mary Lattimore, Shannon Lay and Eyooxaarin Singers and Dancers. The event, dubbed Concert for The Trees. Concert for the People. and MC'ed by SNL alum Melissa Villaseñor, celebrated the organization's 50 years of work to expand shade equity in urban communities throughout Southern California, restore and protect our local mountains and wildlands, and educate and engage tens of thousands of students every year on environmental issues. Sunday’s Concert for The Trees. Concert for the People. marked the inaugural performance at TreePeople’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre since undergoing extensive renovations made possible by a generous donation from the S. Mark Taper Foundation. The outdoor theater, nestled into the hillside at TreePeople’s Coldwater Canyon Park, was hailed by Beck as his “new favorite LA venue.” Year-round programming at TreePeople’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre is set to begin this summer.
Born in 1973 from the hopes and dreams of a teenager, TreePeople is now the largest environmental movement headquartered in Southern California. TreePeople has inspired, engaged, and supported more than 3 million people to take action for our environment by planting and caring for trees in forests, mountains, parks, and our neighborhoods. As the world faces increasing threats from a more hostile climate, TreePeople helps create actionable solutions.
TreePeople and TreePeople’s S. Mark Taper Foundation Amphitheatre are located at 12601 Mulholland Dr., Los Angeles CA 90210.
