CA Natural Resources Agency Secretary Wade Crowfoot, Sen. Bob Hertzberg, Assemblymembers LuzRivas and Lisa Calderon, LAUSD Board President Kelly Gonez,TreePeople, students and communitymembers will celebrate the historic investment of $150 million included in the state budget to greenschools across California. The action approved by the California Legislature and Governor GavinNewsom comes as six million CA school children attend asphalt-covered schoolyards during the longestand hottest heat wave to sweep across the state this year. The state’s unprecedented increasedinvestment, administered through CALFIRE, will provide additional resources to protect kids, teachersand the school community from extreme heat and the highly dangerous “urban heat island effect”. Shadefrom trees alone can lower surface temperatures by up to 45 degrees and cool the air around them,lowering air temperatures by up to 9 degrees.
